Marv Rockford
Pick a job in a television newsroom; Marv Rockford has done it. Marv is now taking his experience as a news and broadcast executive and putting it to good use in advising Rockford Gray’s clients.
Marv’s broadcast career started in Tucson where he worked as a reporter before wisely moving in to news management. In 1981, he joined KCNC-TV in Denver, holding various management positions in the news department, including more than a decade as news director. In 1995 he became General Manager.
The station was awarded the highest American broadcast journalism honors including the DuPont, the Peabody, the Iris, the National Headliner Award and was an unprecedented three-time winner of the national Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence. In 2002, KCNC was named Electronic Media magazine’s Station of the Year.
Marv has spent a lot of time on both sides of the glass wall that separates news from business. He’s directed news coverage and he’s fended off news coverage. He’s skewered and he’s been skewered. Clients of Rockford Gray value both experiences. The advice and coaching they get isn’t based on theory or observation, it’s based on Marv’s real life experience.
Marv offers clients another kind of experience. He has a rich background in developing partnerships with non-profits and civic organizations that offer marketing and image building opportunities. He currently serves on the board of the Colorado Public Radio. He is a past board member of the March of Dimes, the Five Points Media Center and Colorado Business Committee for the Arts. Marv has been a member of the Colorado Forum and the board of directors of the Greater Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. Marv holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Journalism from Northwestern University.
